We are seeking a proactive and detail-focused Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in Longtown. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will support the day-to-day finance function by ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and on time, maintaining accounting records, and assisting with reconciliations, reporting, and month-end activities.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Accounts inbox, responding to queries and distributing documentation as required.

Process supplier and subcontractor invoices, ensuring correct coding, authorisation and posting into Sage.

Maintain the aged creditors process, including supplier statement reconciliations and payment support.

Assist with bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.

Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and adjustments.

Reconcile financial and operational records, maintaining accurate spreadsheets and supporting documentation.

Assist with the maintenance of fixed asset, loan, hire purchase and accrual schedules.

Support month-end procedures and nominal ledger close activities.

Process intercompany charges, customer card payments and credit card reconciliations.

Investigate and resolve supplier and invoice queries.

Provide cover for banking and cashiering duties when required.
About You
Essential
-
AAT qualified, part-qualified, or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or a similar qualification.

Previous experience in a finance or accounting role.

Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger processes.

Experience using accounting software such as Sage 200 or similar.

Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.

Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and numerical ability.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
-
Experience within logistics, transport or a similar operational environment.

Experience supporting month-end processes.

Intermediate Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and Lookups.

Knowledge of accruals, prepayments and financial controls.
