We are proud to announce that we have won a prestigious national transport award for exceptional efforts to keep the country moving during a year in which the nation’s supply chains were tested.
Wm Armstrong Group Ltd was named as a Brand Ambassador at the Palletforce Gala Awards for its work in supporting the national supply chain effort during a challenging year for many transport and logistics companies.
Palletforce is the UK’s premier express freight distribution network – handling more than 45 million pallets – and runs a network of more than 100 member companies across the UK and Europe.

Wm Armstrong Wins Microlise Driver Excellence Award
WM Armstrong, a proud, family-run haulage business that was established in 1927, has scooped the Microlise Driver Excellence Award for 2021, as part of the Microlise Driver of the Year Awards, as the company with the most drivers in the top 1,000 based on telematics data from over 252,000 UK drivers.
The award recognises logistics teams that have consistently displayed driving excellence and superior customer service, with WM Armstrong selected as the overall winner in 2021 based on driver data captured from the Microlise telematics solution in place across its fleet.
According to Shane Kenny, Associate Director, WM Armstrong, “This is a fantastic achievement that could not have come at a better time. The past 18 months have been hugely challenging for the nation and our drivers really stepped up and continued to deliver essential goods when they were needed the most.

The Passing of Cyril Armstrong
It is with great sadness to inform you all of the passing of Cyril Armstrong on Friday 3rd April 2020. Cyril was 77 and had suffered from fibrosis of the lungs for several years. He had been in hospital for the last 6 weeks, had fought off infections and was hoping to get home, before he contracted the COVID-19 virus.

Wm Armstrong, a founding Palletforce member joins 700 logistics businesses across 8 UK distribution networks, offering the government a combined fleet of 23,500 vehicles for distribution of food and emergency supplies.
Thousands raised for Hospice at Home

Nicola and Joanna smashed the initial target set from their Hadrian's Wall trek and managed to raise an impressive £3318 for Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland, thanks to their amazing fundraising efforts and the generous donations they received.
Hadrians Wall Trek
Two long serving Wm Armstrong staff members will hike 25 miles across Hadrian's Wall to raise funds for local charity partner, Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland. The trek will take place on 13th/14th September 2019.

On Saturday 22nd June, 2 members of the Wm Armstrong team, Dan Roberts & Craig Mason will 'Step up to the Plate' and walk Ullswater Way to raise money for Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland.
Driver of the Year Awards 2019
We are proud to announce that Wm Armstrong driver Mark Cowie has been nominated for 'Long Distance Driver of the Year' in the 2019 Microlise Driver Awards. The awards highlight the most talented HGV drivers working in the UK transport industry and acknowledge the vital work they do.

Passing of Robert Armstrong
It is with great sadness to inform of the death of Robert (Bob) Armstrong on Friday 11th January 2019. Bob was an integral part of Wm Armstrong and the haulage industry for a great many years. He will be sadly missed by family, friends & the business community.
​
The funeral will take place on 18th January at Arthuret Church in Longtown (Arthuret St Michaels Church, Arthuret Road, Longtown, Carlisle, CA6 5SJ), followed by interment in the churchyard and refreshments at the Longtown Memorial Hall Community Centre. All friends and colleagues are welcome.

Reaching New Heights
2018 has been a year to remember for Wm Armstrong and its charity partner Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland. In September, five members of the team underwent a nail-biting tandem skydive from 15,000ft to raise money for the charity.

Charity Skydive for Hospice at Home
5 lucky (is that the right word!?) members of the Wm Armstrong team will be donning their parachutes for the first time and doing a skydive to raise money for our charity partner, Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland. The skydive will take place on 1st September 2018.

Palletforce SuperHub Now Open at Burton upon Trent
The Palletforce SuperHub, a £50 million world-class vision to secure the future growth of the UK's leading express pallet network, is now a reality. The investment at the company's central site at Burton upon Trent is the start of a new era for Palletforce and it's members including Wm Armstrong Ltd. The 620,000 sq ft bespoke facility reinforces its position as leader of the express distribution sector.
​
The 38-acre site has 450 truck parking spaces, while single-shift sortation allows for faster turnaround and creates extended delivery windows for member collection and delivery vehicles. The SuperHub has the capacity to handle over 30,000 pallets per night at the UK's optimum overnight distribution location. The additional capacity will fuel future growth within member companies like Wm Armstrong Ltd, helping to create an estimated 700 jobs across the entire Palletforce membership and providing long-term stability.

A Winning Team
Wm Armstrong are delighted to announce that we have been crowned winners in the Transport and Logistics category of the National Family Business Awards 2017 in London this week.
​
Following our success in the Cumbria Family Business Awards earlier this year, we were amongst thirteen Cumbrian finalists and went on to win the Transport and Logistics category at a glittering ceremony in London.
​
We were also announced as National Supreme Champion runners up to boot.
This is an amazing achievement for the Group and the board wish to extend their thanks to every member of our team. Well done!

Longtown Community Centre Funding Appeal
The People's Projects is a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund, ITV, STV and The National Lottery that gives the public a say in awarding National Lottery funding to local projects across the UK. Longtown community centre has applied for funding and your vote would help immensely.
The project would support an increase in provision of activities for local people by improving facilities as well as focusing on a range of new activities for children and older people.

Cumbria Family Business Awards
Transport and Logistics Winners
Wm Armstrong Group are delighted to announce that following our nomination in the Cumbria Family Business Award's Transport and Logistics category, we were announced as winners at the inaugural ceremony which took place at Castle Green Hotel, Kendal.
​
The event, taking place for the first time in 2017, was set up to recognise the 85% of Cumbrian companies which are family businesses. It celebrates the diverse range of family businesses in Cumbria and brings their brilliance to a wider audience.
Finalists gain automatic entry into the second round of the national Family Business of the Year Awards, to be held in London in May 2017.
